Grasmere Yoga Hiking Weekend in the Lake District

Our latest yoga and hiking weekend was in Grasmere at the Grasmere Independent Hostel.  The hostel itself was fantastic accommodation, with a great yoga room, which we had for our sole use.
We had 6 yoga classes for beginner and intermediate level on Saturday morning, Saturday afternoon and Sunday morning and some great hiking in between on both days.

Saturday
After two morning yoga sessions (one for beginners and one for intermediates) we headed out of the hostel and through the lovely Lake District village of Grasmere. We had a short stop at the Sarah Nelson gingerbread shop and paid our respects at the Wordworths graves before walking out along the lakeshore to the Loughrigg Terrace for great views across Grasmere and Rydal Water.

Our walk then took along Rydal Water to the Caves.

And then over the river into Rydal village itself, with its church, Rydal Mount and Rydal Hall.

Our route back to Grasmere took us along the Coffin Route, so called because it was old route that coffins used to pass on their way to the only village church in the area at Grasmere.

As its always important to stay properly hydrated and replenish lost carbs at the end of the walk we then tucked into plentiful supplies of tea and scones, with cream and jam.

After two more yoga classes we then enjoyed dinner in the hostel.

Sunday

After two more yoga classes on Sunday morning, we offered two walking options.  An easier option up to the very popular spot of Easedale Tarn and a harder option over Helm Crag and Gibson knot for those wanting to stretch their legs.

This is the view down Far Easedale towards Grasmere.

Our group on top of Calf Crag.

And our final river crossing before refreshments in the pub, before the journey home.
